Next SIMHYDRO International Conference organised by SHF (Société Hydrotechnique de France) will be held in Nice from 11th to 13th June 2014. The Conference will have three specific characteristics:

-        it will aim at European audience

-        it will aim at high value of presented papers while limiting number of themes: the Organising & Scientific Committees will take particular care in the process of peer reviewing the manuscripts and of accepted papers selection;

-        it will be held in parallel and partially in common with a conference on “Operational Modelling of Great Transitory Flows”.

The domains of papers to be presented and overall programme of SIMHYDRO 2014 Conference are as follows:

11th June 2014

  • Theme 1: Modelling of rapid transitory flows (dam and dyke breaking waves, storm waves, tsunamis, flash floods).
  • Theme 2: Uncertainty in simulation, uncertainty of results of models.

12th June 2014

  • Half day common session with the Conference on Operational Modelling of Great Transitory Flows: key-note invited papers and presentations on simulation of such flows, discussions.

This session will be in French and in English, with simultaneous translation assured in both languages.

  • Theme 3: Half day session on simulation and modelling of near-field 3D flows.


13th June 2014

  • Theme 4: Simulation and modelling of multiphase flows (cavitation, Bubbly flows, dispersed flows)

All papers are to be presented in English.

Operational Modelling of Great Transitory Flows Conference (dam breaking, tsunamis, flash floods) is aiming at French audience, it will be essentially conducted in French but there will be common 12th June session with SIMHYDRO 2014 as indicated in the agendas of both conferences.

Modeling in fluid mechanics, hydraulics, and hydrology, whether using digital tools or using scale models, has reached sufficient maturity to be in daily use by engineers for analysis and for communication. Increasingly complex cases can be handled thanks to ever more sophisticated tools and increasingly abundant computing power. The emerging environment populated with new generation of sensors, using cloud computing resources, is challenging the current practices of modelling and request innovation in methodology and concepts for a real integration into the decision-makings processes.

With respect to these issues, a number of questions remain open: coupling of models, data acquisition & management, uncertainties, use of 3D CFD, models for complex phenomena and for large scale problems, modelling of multiphase flows as well as 3D modelling of Free Surface Flows and difficult challenges of modelling in Multiphase Flows ... All those points will be addressed and discussed during SimHydro 2014 with a special emphasis on fast hydraulic transients.
