Following first industrial achievements more than 40 years ago (e.g. 240 MW tidal power station at La Rance, France), Ocean Energy industry is living a booming development since about 10 years in France, Europe, and worldwide. This momentum is supported by all technical, scientific, and institutional stakeholders who are working in this area, as Ocean Energy sources are seen as a key element to increase generation mix diversity and portion of renewables in that mix.

The development of Ocean Energy technologies and projects at an industrial standard requires to filling technical and socio-economical gaps, particularly regarding the industrial maturity of the different technologies, and the assessment of socio-environmental projects impacts. To tackle these issues, important and multi-disciplinary R&D efforts are undertaken, pilot units are built and installed in actual marine environment to test their performance and reliability against real conditions, and consultation within stakeholders is sought at the earliest stages of projects development.

Given this high level of research, engineering and projects development activities, it appeared essential to the French Societe Hydrotechnique de France (SHF), in partnership with France-Energies-Marines excellence institute and Ifremer, to hold a conference dedicated to Ocean Energy development. The objective of this conference is to share the best available technical and scientific information, developed in France and abroad, to address the issues cited above.

More precisely, the conference will focus on the following areas:

-Ocean energy potential in France (metropolitan and overseas regions), in Europe and worldwide, for different marine energy conversion technologies : hydrokinetics or in-stream power, tidal power, Ocean Thermal Energy Convertion, wave power, and offshore wind power ; opportunities for coastal marine pumped-storage facilities will also be addressed ;

-Maturity of technologies and projects, developed in France and worldwide : technical gaps ; R&D efforts to bridge the gaps ; qualification of technologies performance and reliability ; supporting conditions for industrial development (connection to the grid, supporting infrastructures) ;

-Social and environmental integration of projects, and impact assessment criteria ;

-Institutional and financial frameworks (France, Europe) : public / private actions in support to technology development ; partnerships ;

-Training and skills development : news methods, new tools, new engineers and researchers generations for new technologies ; synergy with other industrial cultures (e.g. offshore engineering).

This conference is open to power industry companies, equipment suppliers, technology developers, research organizations, consulting and public works companies, associations and NGOs, and public institutions. Official languages will be French and English (no simultaneous translation provided). Posters will complement oral presentations and will be briefly introduced during oral sessions. Some topics will be covered through keynote addresses or roundtables format.

An EXHIBITION space is available to a selected groupe of equipment suppliers, engineers, manufactures and professionals related to the conference themes. The exibitor fee covers only one Conference registration.
